"Spirits of the sand"

A Heritage Lottery Fund financed project bringing together young people and the wartime generation who remember the American soldiers training in North Devon.

Students undertook field work on the Assault Training Centre surveying and exploring some of the wartime constructions as well as interviewing senior members of the local communities to record their memories. Student's research into the personal lives of some soldiers who trained in North Devon is presented on camera together with their pilgrimage to the soldier's graves in Normandy.

Lost archive film of the training and preparation for D-Day has been located and incorporated into this story of the existence of the U.S. Army Assault Training Centre.
